INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE

2010 PEARL J. ALDRICH

FACULTY RESEARCH AWARD

Purpose: The Aldrich Faculty Research Award is a competitive award intended to encourage and support faculty who are committed to research with an aging focus. This prestigious award may be used to support new research initiatives, or ongoing research efforts in gerontology.   

Amount of Award: The amount of the Aldrich Award is up to $20,000.  Funds must be used for the research described.  Faculty salary is not permitted.

Eligibility: All MSU faculty are eligible for the award except persons who have received an Aldrich Faculty Research Award in the past and current members of the review committee.  Community-based faculty with an MSU appointment are eligible to apply.

Criteria for Award Consideration:
(1) Applicants must present a research proposal that contains an aging focus. 
(2) Intercollegiate, interdisciplinary and collaborative research activities are encouraged.

(3) Competitive applications will be those from basic, clinical, health services, social, applied and outreach research venues.

(4) Special consideration will be given to those applications that have strong likelihood of obtaining extramural funding and to investigators who have or plan to have an ongoing focus on aging in their research careers. 

 

Selection Process

The award recipient will be selected by the Pearl J. Aldrich Selection Committee. The Committee is composed of faculty from various academic units who have an expressed interest in gerontology, geriatrics, and research methodology. The Committee seeks to include representation from the entire University including the Colleges of Human Medicine, Nursing, Osteopathic Medicine, Communications and Social Science. Content experts are called upon to assist in the review process, as appropriate.

March 12, 2009

 

To submit an application, please provide:

1) A 5-page description of your research (Microsoft Word or compatible format). Include Aims, Background, Methodology, Expected Outcomes, Budget, Budget Justification, and Timeline

2) A cover letter that includes how aging-related research fits into your career

3) A recent CV
