INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE

2008 PEARL ALDRICH

GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD

 

  • Purpose: The Aldrich Graduate Student Research Award is a competitive award intended to encourage and support MSU graduate students who are committed to a research career with an aging focus. This prestigious award may be used to support new research initiatives, or ongoing research efforts in gerontology.

    Amount of Award: Up to two Aldrich Awards will be given. The amount of the award will range between $1,200 and $2,500.  Funds must be used for the research described.

    Eligibility: All MSU graduate students are eligible for the award.

    Criteria for Award Consideration:

    (1) Applicants must present a research proposal that contains an aging focus.

    (2) Competitive applications are based upon peer review.

    (3) Applications that will be reviewed include those from basic or clinical health services, applied and outreach research venues.

    (4) Applicants must have faculty supervision and a signed letter of support from the primary supervisor of the research.

    (5) The application must include a budget justification of how the award will be spent.The budget should clearly relate to the project.

    (6) The applicants agree to provide the Selection Committee with a final report of the research, as well as a final budget distribution.

    Selection Process

    The award recipient will be selected by the Pearl J. Aldrich Selection Committee. The Committee is composed of faculty from various academic units who have an expressed interest in gerontology and geriatrics. The Committee will serve as the primary peer reviewers with content experts called on to assist in the review process, as appropriate. The award will be distributed to a departmental account and disbursed by departmental mechanisms


    Deadline for Nominations:

    March 10, 2008

    To submit an application, please provide

    1) A 5-page description of your research. Include Aims, Background, Methodology, Expected Outcomes, Budget Justification, and Timeline. 

    2) A cover letter that includes how aging-related research fits into your career

    3)  A Letter of Faculty Support  

    4)) A recent resume/CV
